Musk '85

The 1980s were a defining period for musk perfumes. Nearly every house had its interpretation, each expressing its own vision of masculinity. These compositions, however, were built largely around synthetic musks, materials whose functional role in perfumery remains indispensable.

Musk ’85 takes the spirit of that era and adds a substantial dose of Siberian deer musk, introducing a darker, animalic dimension absent from most modern musk perfumes. Aldehydic and soapy facets support the musk, shaping a rugged elegance whose balance is difficult to achieve.

New Caledonian sandalwood forms the backbone of this fragrance, chosen over Mysore for its drier, more classical profile. Vetiver and oakmoss support the sandalwood, while costus lends a light musky accent deep into the dry-down.

The florals here are structural rather than a feature. Rose De Mai, geranium and jasmine CO2 round the composition without disturbing its masculine profile. The result is a musk perfume that recalls an older era while extending beyond it. Clean, textured and quietly feral.
